Keep Cambridge
Open For Business

We want a solution to Cambridge's traffic - Closing key roads is not it.

About

The Greater Cambridge City Deal consultation is set to end on 10th October 2016 but it is clear that it is not widely known about nor the implications fully understood.

There are 2 big ideas in here which will have an enormous impact on businesses and organisations and individuals that need to gain access to the city.

  1. Peak Time Congestion Control
    • "Close" key roads in the city during peak travel times
    • This will not be done with rising bollards but with cameras
    • These cameras will fine anyone who uses the roads at the wrong time
    • Current Newmarket Road bus lane fines are £60. It is not clear what they plan to charge if this goes ahead
    • The roads that will be closed are;
      • Coldhams Lane
      • East Road
      • Mill Road
      • Hills Road
      • Queens Road
      • Grange Road
  2. Workplace parking Levy
    • A tax on businesses based on the number of parking spaces they have.
    • This follows the same principle as the infamous 17th Century window tax.

Keep Cambridge Open For Business is a collective of businesses, organisations and individuals from small to large and from a wide range of different backgrounds. What we have in common is one thing; the need for access, either for clients, customers, staff or patients and deliveries.

We do not claim to have the answer but we do know that cutting off the flow of oxygen that helps the city breathe and prosper is not the answer.

Collectively we wish to see a reasonable traffic policy which helps the city flow better and allows reliable access of private vehicles to our Businesses and Enterprises.

This Petition is aimed at any businesses, organisations and individuals who use the City to earn a living and provide a service.
